Thimphu Tshechu

The Thimphu Tsechu, which is one of the Biggest Festivals in Bhutan, brings together people from all over the country to honour Guru Rinpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan.

Schedule Details

Day 1 Paro to Thimphu (1 hour 30 mins drive)

After you arrive you can visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong. It was built in 1646 and now houses government offices and religious institutions, as do all the dzongs (forts) currently. You can then visit Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the country. In the afternoon you will drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. The drive to Thimphu is along a winding road following the Paro and Thimphu rivers. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 2: Thimphu Tsechu

The Thimphu Tsechu, which is one of the Biggest Festivals in Bhutan, brings together people from all over the country to honour Guru Rinpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. This Festival dates back to 1867 when it was established by the Fourth Desi, Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye. The festival features various mask dances performed by lay monks and jesting by Atsaras.The sacred Throngdroel of Guru Rinpoche is unfurled on the last day of the Tsechu. It is believed that those who are fortunate enough to view the Throngdroel will receive blessings and accumulate good merit.Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Thimphu. Elevation 2300m

Day 3: Thimphu –Punakha (3 hours drive)

After breakfast you will drive to Wangduephodrang, with a stop en route for tea at Dochu La (3,100 meters), where on a clear day you can get spectacular views of the Himalayas. After lunch you will drive to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan, and visit Punakha Dzong, which is noteworthy both for being one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan and also for having been built by the first Shabdrung in 1637. On the way back from Punakha, you will stop at Metshina Village and take a 20-minute walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lakhang, which is a fertility temple. Overnight in Wangduephodrang.

Day 4. Wangduephodrang to Paro.

After breakfast drive to Thimphu. Do rest of the sightseeing in Thimphu. Lunch in Thimphu. After lunch drive to Paro. In Paro you can visit a village. You can see authentic Bhutanese life in the rural area. Overnight in Paro.

Day 5: Paro (hike to Taktsang Monastery)

After an early breakfast you will hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which is Bhutan's most famous monastery. It is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. The hike to reach the viewpoint to the monastery makes for a nice half-day excursion. Rest of the day at your leisure.. Overnight in Paro.

Day 6 Depart Paro for Kathmandu

After breakfast you will be driven to the Paro Airport to board your flight out of Paro. Your Bhutanese escort will bid you farewell and “Tashi Delek “(Good Luck) !.
